A part-time course for registered health professionals
The Sesame Institute, an educational charity, has been training therapists to use drama and movement in therapy since 1964. Psyche and Soma is a CPD training for registered counsellors, psychotherapists and qualified health professionals who want to draw on imagination and embodiment in their existing practice, when words are not enough. It also provides refresher experience for Arts Therapists.
The course places high value on experiential work having its own potency
in therapy, and explores the Psyche/Soul, with its symbol based language, as the prime energy in any healing work.
The modules on this two year course take place over one 3-day intensive, 8 quarterly weekends, and 7 supervision groups. The inclusive fee is £2200.

my Self, Movement with Touch and Sound, Emerging Play and Story, Symbol and Myth Enactment, Soul Imperative, Soul Research.

The Sesame Approach to Drama and Movement Therapy
A part-time foundation coursefor professionals and others wishing to explore
embodied symbol, the moving body and the place of the psyche-soul

The Course:
To develop the work in Ireland, Sesame Ireland is now offering an on-going training group for people who want either a longer experience of working with the embodied symbol in their therapeutic practice, or for people who wish to work through a creative arts therapy before undertaking formal therapy training.
The short foundation course takes place over three weekends in 2010/2011 and aims to give participants the opportunity to explore the key principles of the Sesame approach. No previous experience of dance or drama is required. The weekends will explore:
The Modules:
* The Sesame Approach as a therapeutic intervention ( taught oneach weekend)
* Jung, active imagination and traditional story in therapy
* The movement fundamentals of Rudolph Laban as a diagnostictool
* Movement with Touch and Sound as a means of non-verbal attun- ement and relationship.
Course Team:
Mary Smail is the course leader and the Director of the Sesame Institute. She trained with Sesame’s Founder, Marian Lindkvist in 1990 and now works as a psychotherapist who involves the creative arts in her practice. She is presently a PhD candidate exploring therapy through the eyes of “Soul”.
Raphaela Heaslip has 17 years experience working with different client groups
in Cork. She has also facilitated workshops in Europe and South America. She loves this work, and knows there are potential Sesame drama and movement therapists in Ireland.
Venue:
The Course will be situated at Cork School of Music, Union Quay, Cork City. The venue is in the centre of the city.

The Sesame Institute hosts an exciting conference day comprising of an eclectic mix of experiential workshops, presentations, performance, talks and discussions.
The Stepping Stones Conference aims to celebrate the Sesame Approach in all its forms, providing recent graduates of the CSSD MA in Drama and Movement Therapy (Sesame) and the Sesame Institute Psyche and Soma course, with a platform to present their thoughts and ideas on the Sesame Approach.
This year, the conference incorporates Sesame practitioner work happening in the research and work field.
